Macroday: Complex

One of my many unfinished projects: my most recent temari. It's basically an intricate pattern of embroidery on a ball. I'm by far not accomplished, and I've only made a handful. I unfortunately do not have photos of the completed ones I've made as they are living with someone else now, which is as is should be. I'll make more one day though. Maybe I'll even finish this one.

Wow! That one is really intricate...far too complex for me.

BTW...I put those photos of your balls on my flickr so you can go get 'em.

Now THAT is a scentence to take out of context " I put those photos of your balls on my flickr so you can go get 'em" What would my grandmother think?

I started out like you using the heavy floss for my dividing lines, but then changed to metalic sewing thread and the designs seem lighter. I like it much better. One of my favorites (which I unfortunatly don't have a photo of) is a navy ball divided into 12 equal pentagrams and stitched like a spider web, (a design not found in any book) and done in gold metalic thread. The way the light shimmers on it is lovely. You can see some of my balls (all gone to new homes) at my blog under "What I learned at my own workshop" After looking at the picture I realised that I don't have one there that uses the thin thread, but the pink on in the front right is using 3 strand DMC metalic thread. It is a bit better than the floss, but still heavier looking than I like.

I just looked at your balls on the cowgirls flickr. You must have found Margaret Ludlows book. That is how I started. If you are looking for more inspiration not to mention the shear WOW factor, check out www.temarikai.com

Holy smoke, jackie, your temari are gorgeous! Yes, the book was a gift and i used up some of my old floss stash to see if it was a craft I even enjoyed. (silly me, of COURSE I did!) It was great, but, being true to myself, I saw something else shiny and glittery in my peripheral vision and was on to the next thing! I still keep the book and that unfinished ball out in view with the intention of going further, it's just a matter of time before I come back around to it!
